Demonstrators marched though downtown Oakland on Sunday to challenge the US city’s new restrictions on nighttime protests.
Last week, Oakland’s mayor Libby Schaaf said the city would enforce an existing ban on street protests at night in order to prevent violence and damage to property. City officials added that protestors without permits could still remain on the sidewalk, however.
Activists said the ban constitutes a curfew, and took to the streets of Oakland over the weekend in defiance of the order. Dozens were reportedly arrested on Saturday and Sunday nights.
