#Fakerape posters target Columbia University student

Posters using #rapehoax and “pretty little liar” popped up overnight all over the Columbia University neighbourhood targeting sexual assault activist Emma Sulkowicz. Sulkowicz gained attention for carrying a mattress around campus in protest of the administration’s handling of her reported rape by a classmate.

For her protest, a part of her senior art project titled “Carry That Weight” which began last year, Sulkowicz vowed to carry her mattress as long as she and her rapist went to the same school. Sulkowicz graduated this week and the President of Columbia University reportedly did not shake her hand during the graduation ceremony as she carried her mattress on stage.

The posters reportedly went up Tuesday night during graduation week. A Twitter account @fakerape using the hashtag #rapehoax, and a Flickr account shared images of the posters around campus.
