Israeli faked being ‘kidnapped by Palestinians’ to win back lost love

Niv Asraf, 22, to face trial for ‘wasting resources’, among other charges.

Niv Asraf, the 22-year-old Israeli who faked being kidnapped in the West Bank, will now be facing trial. His plan was to hide for a few days, then reemerge with a heroic story of how he escaped Palestinian captors. According to investigators, it was all to win back a romantic interest who recently ended their relationship.

But Asraf was discovered in a sleeping bag near the Israeli settlement of Kiryat Arba after his friend, Eran Nagauker, revealed his location. Nagauker, an Israeli soldier, originally reported Asraf’s disappearance, but later admitted he was in on the plot. Now both will be on trial for misleading authorities.
