
10-year-old dies in police raid; Brazilians say ‘war in Alemao’
Recent police violence sparks protests and backlash.
Brazilians are protesting the killing of a 10-year-old boy in a police operation in a Rio de Janeiro slum, or favela, on Thursday. The Complexo do Alemão neighbourhood has seen a spate of police violence in recent days, which included three fatalities on Wednesday. The death of 10-year-old Eduardo de Jesus Ferreira on Thursday prompted protests as well as anger on social media.
Residents held a candlelight vigil on Thursday night, in protest against police violence.
