Canadians say new legislation will infringe on civil liberties.
Thousands of Canadians are protesting against a new anti-terrorism law that many argue will infringe civil liberties and privacy rights. The bill, labeled C-51, is expected to expand the powers of police and security intelligence, and allow for extended detention of terror suspects. C-51 was introduced in late January by Canada’s conservative government in response to attacks that killed two Canadian soldiers last October.
