Norwegians are speaking out against a government plan to penalise citizens who help street beggars.
In 2014, Norway’s government gave local councils the ability to ban begging in their towns and cities. The country’s Ministry of Justice is now weighing an amendment to the criminal code that would introduce penalties for those who “collaborate” with people involved in organised street begging.
Many have argued that such a penalty would punish those showing generosity towards the homeless.
