New Zealand pride parade marred by transphobia accusations

Trans protester injured after altercation with security during Auckland Pride Parade.

A Maori transgender woman was allegedly injured as she, along with other protesters, interrupted police marching during a pride parade in northern New Zealand on Sunday.

Demonstrators unfurled a banner stating “No pride in prisons” to protest the participation of police and corrections officers. The group spokesperson said they wanted to highlight police brutality against queer, Maori and Pasifika communities. One of them reportedly suffered injuries as she was being removed from the parade by security.

A video apparently taken at the parade shows security handling the protester.
