Canadian First Nation tribe, firefighters caught in blame game

Dispute over fire bills erupts into national debate with deaths of two children.

The chief of a First Nation tribe is trading blame with the local fire department for the deaths of two toddlers in a reservation in northwestern Saskatchewan.

Richard Ben of the Makwa Sahgaiehcan tribe accused Larry Heon, head of the Loon Lake volunteer fire department, of failing to respond to a call for help on Tuesday. But Heon said the reservation failed to pay its bills, resulting in the cancellation of firefighting services.

The deadly blaze has stirred emotion and debate online and off.
