Nude Zuma painting sparks outrage in South Africa

Artist Ayanda Mabulu’s controversial new work depicts ‘rape’ of South Africa by President Jacob Zuma.

South African artist Ayanda Mabulu’s most recent work has ignited a firestorm on Twitter. The painting, titled “Spear Down My Throat (The Pornography of Power)”, depicts South African President Jacob Zuma nude while he lynches and rapes a woman. 

In an interview with Culture Review, Mabulu defended his work, saying South Africa’s young democracy is “being molested in many ways and raped continuously.”

“I feel like our leaders have been turned into a lynch clan” he added. “We have been robbed out of what’s rightfully ours.”
