South Africans warn #DontBringBackApartheidDA

South African politician Dianne Kohler Barnard is under fire for sharing a Facebook post praising one of the country’s last apartheid-era presidents, Pieter Willem Botha.  

 

Botha, who led South Africa from 1978 to 1989, was a steadfast opponent of racial equality and a fierce defender of the apartheid system. South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission later found him responsible for committing serious human rights violations.

 

Though Kohler Barnard has since deleted the post, which she initially shared in mid-September, a screenshot of it surfaced in recent days.
