Garbage selfies take on corruption in Egypt

Photo campaign highlights rundown areas with parody messages.

‘The People’s Porto’ Facebook page is highlighting the rundown infrastructure many Egyptians live in with an unusual photo campaign. Satirically named after the country’s ‘Porto’ luxury resorts, the campaign calls on citizens to share selfies with garbage piles and overflowing sewage.

A spokesperson for the April 6 youth movement, the group behind the campaign, “said that the campaign is not political, but criticizes the mismanagement of localities where corruption is widespread”.
