Missouri police wear ‘I am Darren Wilson’ bracelets
Amid renewed unrest in the US city of Ferguson, police wear bracelets supporting officer who shot teenager Michael Brown.
Police in Ferguson, Missouri were photographed wearing bracelets supporting their fellow officer Darren Wilson, who shot and killed unarmed black teenager Michael Brown in August. The bracelets, which read “I am Darren Wilson,” have also been seen on civilians at rallies in support of the Ferguson police.
Missouri Highway Patrol Captain Ron Johnson confirmed some officers were wearing the bracelets in a news conference on Wednesday. He insisted they were a personal statement, not a statement of the Ferguson police department. Johnson also said he would speak to the officers wearing the bracelets.
Instagram user MediaBlackOutUSA first shared the image, which was widely circulated and drew harsh criticism online.
