One year after protests toppled former President Mohamed Morsi, Egyptians remain divided on the outcome.

On the first anniversary of protests that led to former President Mohamed Morsi’s removal, Egyptians discuss the situation in the country using #لماذا_خلعنا_مرسى (‘Why we removed Morsi’).

Many Morsi supporters used the hashtag to express their criticism of the power changes. The image below shows current President Abdel Fattah El Sisi when he was Defence Minister, with former President Morsi, before the protests.
