Reforming Canada’s foreign worker programme
Exploitation of foreign labour in Canada calls Temporary Foreign Worker programme into question.
Allegations of abuse and exploitation have recently brought Canada’s Temporary Foreign Worker programme (TFWP) under fire. Many Canadians argue TFWP, which was set-up to allow Canadian employers to hire international workers to fill temporary labour and skill shortages, has become a pipeline for cheap labour and prevents locals from being hired. The workers are reportedly mistreated, placed in poor living conditions and paid very little. While the government has promised to fix the programme, what do you think should be done?
