Palestinians study the Holocaust
Palestinian professor’s organised visit to Auschwitz ignites controversy.
Can learning about the opposing side’s suffering lead to reconciliation? Palestinian Professor Mohammed Dajani believes it can, prompting him to take a group of his students to visit Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. A heated debate has erupted about whether the students should have gone. Critics say Dajani is a “traitor” and accuse him of normalising relations with Israel, while some applaud him for taking an unprecedented step towards understanding the “other”. Professor Dajani joins us to discuss the controversy surrounding the trip at 1930GMT.
