UCLA has rejected a $3 million pledge towards kidney research from Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling, following the leak of racist comments he made in a recorded conversation. UCLA also plans on returning Sterling’s initial donation of $425,000, all of which was intended for UCLA’s Division of Nephrology.
“Mr. Sterling’s divisive and hurtful comments demonstrate that he does not share UCLA’s core values as a public university that fosters diversity, inclusion and respect”, the university said in a statement released Wednesday,
