After 49 days in power, India’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal has stepped down as New Delhi’s Chief Minister. He had previously threatened to resign if the ruling Congress Party decided against introducing the Jan Lokpal Bill, a civil society initiative geared towards combating corruption. On Friday, Kejriwal’s threats to resign were made reality after the introduction of the bill was defeated in the state assembly.

After the announcement, crowds of supporters and party workers descended on the AAP office in New Delhi.
