‘To my unborn son’: Black Yale students pen open letters

Group creates blog after US juries fail to indict officers accused of killing unarmed black men.

In response to the deaths of unarmed black men at the hands of US police officers, members of Yale University’s Black Men’s Union wrote messages to their unborn sons.

The blog, titled “To my unborn son”, begins with an open letter to the parents of Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager who was shot and killed by a white police officer.

“When we think about what it means to be black men in America, we realize that we are all Michael, we are all sons,” the letter reads. “We hope that you can find some solace in our voices as we share with you messages to our unborn sons.”

Members of the group wrote messages of support and caution to their unborn children.
