The Stream looks at the conversations Iranians are having about the recent attacks against women in Isfahan.
What motivated the recent acid attacks in Iran that left at least four women disfigured? The incidents, which are rare in Iran, coincided with a new bill introduced in parliament that would provide legal protection for “vice groups” who enforce socially conservative practices. The law also encourages ordinary citizens to participate in moral policing. Iranian authorities, however, denied links to these groups and claimed the violence was committed by “anti-social” individuals. Join the conversation at 1930GMT.
