Thousands of demonstrators marched in cities around Burkina Faso on Saturday to protest possible plans for a fifth term for long-ruling president Blaise Compaore.

Opposition leaders called for a national day of protest over fears that Compaore plans to amend the constitution for a second time to avoid stepping down in 2015. AFP reported at least 10,000 people protested in the capital, Ouagadougou. Dozens of former ruling party members who had resigned earlier this month also joined the demonstrations.
