Network’s actions ignite debate on media ethics.
A suicide filmed by a South Korean news channel has sparked backlash online. A cameraman for the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) channel filmed Sung Jae-ki, a 45-year-old men’s advocacy leader, hanging off a bridge in Seoul on Friday. After his jump, Sung was reported missing for several days until his corpse was found on Monday afternoon.
KBS maintains they called emergency services before and after Sung’s fatal jump. The incident has ignited a debate over journalists’ responsibility to intervene in the stories they cover.
