Mumbai residents who locked themselves in a housing complex to protest a demolition order had reason to celebrate on Wednesday. The Supreme Court of India put a stay on a demolition order which reportedly would have evicted families from more than 100 illegal flats in Mumbai. The judicial stay came after police and civic officials on Wednesday morning bulldozed their way into the Campa Cola housing complex, where residents had locked themselves inside protesting the planned demolition. The apartments were constructed in the 1980s, and occupants have been fighting to have the flats regularised since 2005.
