Abdullah Abdullah: Can Afghanistan move ahead without US troops?

The High Council for National Reconciliation’s chief discusses if trust has been built after months of negotiations.

The US invasion of Afghanistan began in 2001. Twenty years on, the Americans are still there, but President Joe Biden has promised the mission will finally end on August 31, 2021.

Can the country overcome the wounds left by years of disagreement and sectarian division? After months of intra-Afghan talks, have the different sides built trust? Abdullah Abdullah, the chief of the High Council for National Reconciliation, talks to Al Jazeera.
