Iraqi PM: Is Iraq at the crossroads of US-Iran relations?

It has been one year since Iraq’s Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi took office. But the country has been marked in recent decades by conflict, turmoil and instability.

There was the US invasion in 2003 and the chaos of the transition to a new beginning. In the years that followed, there was endemic corruption and sectarian violence. And more recently, there has been civil disobedience, the killing of protesters by security forces, the effects of US-Iran tensions, the COVID-19 pandemic and the devastation caused to an already fragile economy.
