Andrea Ammon: Did the EU miss the boat on containing COVID-19?

The ECDC director discusses the agency’s role in the battle against the coronavirus pandemic.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control is an agency with a mandate to strengthen Europe’s defences against infectious diseases.

But there are many who question its purpose. Critics say the agency has not been effective in dealing with this crisis.

And without any executive powers, its recommendations are not legally binding.

So how will the agency convince its member states for a more unified approach to the COVID-19 pandemic?
