General Pervez Musharraf, the president of Pakistan, talks to Al Jazeera’s Darren Jordan about the key issues that have shaped and defined his presidency to date, beginning with the events of 9/11 and the subsequent ‘war on terror’.
Probed about that key moment when the US told him that he was either with them or against them and asked whether he imagined then that six years on the ‘war on terror’ would still be raging, Musharraf acknowledges that he did not fully appreciate the complexities of the problems he was facing.
He discusses his four-pronged approach to dealing with militancy within Pakistan as well as his relationship with Hamid Karzai, the president of Afghanistan, following his accusations that Pakistan is giving support and refuge to the Taliban.
Pakistan’s relationship with India, Kashmir and the controversy over the suspension of the chief justice that has stirred opposition to Musharraf’s rule are all discussed.
