Islamophobia in the US
Louis Farrakhan, the leader of the Nation of Islam, discusses whether the US is becoming less tolerant.
Tension and acrimony marked the ninth anniversary of the September 11 attacks in the US. Relations between Muslims and people of other faiths appear to have slipped to a new low with the controversies over Quran-burning and the proposed Islamic centre near ‘ground zero’ in New York City.
The pastor of a small church in Florida threatened to burn copies of the Quran on 9/11 as a “lesson to radical Muslims worldwide” but backed down after intense pressure. However, copies of the Islamic holy book were desecrated in Manhattan and Tennessee.

Most people in the US also oppose a plan to build an Islamic centre near the site of the 9/11 attacks, which were carried out by Muslim extremists.
Americans say it would be insensitive to friends and relatives of nearly 3,000 people killed on the day.
