Lawyers in Poland for Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri have asked Polish prosecutors to investigate his detention and torture at a CIA black site that once existed in that country.
The Saudi national was arrested in 2002 for allegedly masterminding the USS Cole bombing in 2000.
Al-Nashiri’s legal team says he is the first victim of the CIA’s rendition programme to pursue legal remedies in Poland. He is currently being held in Guantanamo Bay without charge or trial.
On Tuesday’s show we will discuss those issues with Amrit Singh of the Open Society Justice Initiative, an organisation dedicated to promoting global human rights, Warsaw-based lawyer Mikolaj Pietrzak who is representing al-Nashiri in Poland; and Navy Lieutenant Commander Stephen Reyes, appointed by the Pentagon to defend al-Nashiri before US military commissions.
