Foreign policy experts discuss the key events in the US president’s first 100 days.
By design or by necessity, Barack Obama, the US president, has crammed more into his first 100 days in office than most US presidents.
While the economic crisis has been his number one priority, he has also worked to undo most of what George Bush, the former US president, set in motion.
Within hours of taking office, he ordered the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay to be closed by next year.
Over the past 100 days he has also announced a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq, formally banned torture in interrogations, sent a videotaped message to the Iranian people, and visited a Muslim country.
On Wednesday, Riz speaks with Flynt Leverett, who served as a senior Middle East analyst in the White House, State Department and CIA before quitting the Bush administration in 2003 due to disagreements on Middle East policy, especially toward Iran.
