Lifting the veil on sexuality

A Lebanese magazine is breaking taboos and causing controversy in the Middle East.

Watch part two

Is it corrupting or liberating moral values when sexual topics are being openly discussed in the Middle East?

This is the debate sparked by a magazine called Jasad (Body) published in Lebanon and distributed throughout the Arab world.

It openly discusses long-standing taboos in Arab culture ranging from sexual fetishes to homosexuality, and even cannibalism.

It also highlights articles by famous authors and scholars discussing their first sexual experience.

Some are accusing Jasad of corrupting moral values, and calling it for it to shut down operations.

Its founder argues that the magazine portrays the body not as something to be ashamed of, but rather celebrated.

Has the Arab world become so liberal that such a magazine is a reflection of society or are the taboos of generations past still intact? Is the Arab world ready for such a publication?

On Monday, Riz speaks with Joumana Haddad, the founder and editor-in-chief of Jasad, and Dr. Heba Kotb, a weekly contributor to the Egyptian TV show Nile Live.

This episode of the Riz Khan show aired from September 14.
