Richard Perle talks about why he believes the ‘surge’ in Iraq is working |
In the lead up to the war, Richard Perle, the former US assistant secretary of defence, was considered by many to be one of the key players urging the White House to invade Iraq and topple Saddam Hussein.
Now, five years later, he stands by that decision arguing that Iraq was a just war.
Perle does acknowledge, however, that mistakes were made in the occupation of Iraq and he traces those mistakes to the top of Washington DC’s power corridor.
He says George Bush, the US president, failed to lead what became a fractious, dysfunctional administration.
Today he believes the surge is working. We’ll ask him about the intelligence blunders in Iraq and why he believes the surge is working.
