Twenty-four states head to the polls in what was meant to be the end of the US presidential primaries and an opportunity for the Republican and Democratic parties to rally their bases before what is predicted to be a close national election in November.

But with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama tied in several key states it is looking less and less likely that the Democratic nominee will be crowned on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Republican Senator John McCain is poised to win his party’s nomination as he leads Mitt Romney across the board.

So what does that mean for the general election?

On Super Tuesday, Riz Khan looks at the 2008 US presidential elections with Princeton University’s Melissa Harris-Lacewell. She is author of Barbershops, Bibles and BET: Everyday Talk and Political Thought and an expert on race, gender and politics. Also joining the programme is Grover Norquist, a Republican super-strategist and the president of Americans for Tax Reform.
