The agreement brokered last week by Kofi Annan between Mwai Kibaki, Kenya’s president from the Party of National Unity (PNU) and Raila Odinga, the opposition leader from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), see’s Odinga take over the newly reinstated role of prime minister with executive powers.
It is hoped that the agreement will finally bring peace to the nation, which has been on the verge of civil war since the presidential elections on December 27, 2007.
After the results came out, which independent observers called “unfair”, more than a thousand people were left dead and hundreds of thousands displaced from their homes by ethnic violence.
