IFRC President: ‘We can’t afford to ignore the climate crisis’

“We cannot afford to ignore the climate crisis for the duration of the pandemic,” Francesco Rocca, president of the International Federation of the Red Cross, tells Al Jazeera in this episode of #AJOpinion.

“Like climate change, COVID-19 affects everyone, but vulnerable people living in disaster-prone areas, migrants, refugees are hit hardest,” he argues.

“They are more exposed to infections, they’re least able to access health care and are deeply impacted by the loss of income. They must not be forgotten; we have no choice but to address the humanitarian impact of COVID-19 and the climate crisis at the same time.”
