United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken is on a visit to several African countries as part of a push by President Joe Biden’s administration to increase cooperation and strengthen ties.
Blinken has sought to assure leaders that, unlike past US administrations, this one would treat Africa as an equal partner.

But it is not clear how much influence Washington can have on the continent.
US pressure on Sudanese and Ethiopian leaders to end political turmoil and conflict has produced few results.
Meanwhile, the US has promised economic investment and help in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change.
But will it be able to compete with China?
