Does Turkey trust Washington?

The US vice president flies to Ankara to try to mend strained relations following the failed coup.

Turkey’s Prime Minister Binali Yildirim welcomed Vice President Joe Biden in Ankara.

It is the first visit by a US leader since the coup attempt last month.

Relations between the NATO allies are strained, largely because of the Turkish government’s demand for the US to extradite the man it blames for orchestrating the coup bid.

The US insists it needs firm evidence before it can arrest Fethallah Gulen, let alone extradite him.

The founder of the Gulen movement lives in self-imposed exile in the US, and denies planning to overthrow his former ally President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Will Joe Biden succeed in mending fences with Turkey?
