Can the Schengen treaty survive?

More refugees are stranded after Germany backtracked on open border policy.

The plight of thousands of people seeking refuge has worsened after Germany reinstated border controls, admitting that their influx is at the limit of its capacities.

This move means that Berlin has put on hold the Schengen treaty that allows free movement within its member states.

In Brussels, EU interior ministers were discussing way to spread the number of refugees across its member states. Many countries have made it clear they are against any plan to impose quotas.

So, where does all this leave the refugees? And what does it mean for the Shengen treaty and free movement?
