Inside Story

Does ISIL have a global reach?

Calls for tougher security measures and stepped-up military operations are growing following the Paris attacks.

The leaders of the 20 most powerful countries have agreed to step up border controls and aviation security.

Meeting in Turkey, the G20 leaders also say they remain committed to tackling how terrorism is financed by sharing more information.

With the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) claiming responsibility for recent Beirut and Paris attacks, many are questioning the tactics adopted so far against the group.

France is stepping up its military operations against ISIL. Some critics say that will only aggravate the threat, with some going as far as saying ISIL activities in the West are now a reality.

But how serious is ISIL’s threat? And how how far can the group go?
