Moments of silence were observed in the countries that were hit by the 2004 tsunami. The disaster killed hundreds of thousands of people, in one of the worst natural disasters in history. Many more lost their homes and properties.
Since then, the focus has been on establishing a viable early tsunami warning system that could save lives in the future.
So, is the region prepared for the next big disaster?
