Syria and Israel have expressed their desire to conduct peace talks in goodwill and decided to continue talks with seriousness to achieve comprehensive peace.
Ehud Olmert, the Israeli prime minister, says that a chance for peace outweighs any risk that might come with negotiations and possible concessions, despite low popular Israeli support for the return of the entire Golan Heights back to Syria.
We ask: Can the 40 year deadlock between Syria and Israel be broken this time? And what are the conditions required to make peace after many failed attempts?
