Khartoum attack

Darfur rebels launched a surprise attack in the Sudan. We look at the implications.

The Sudanese government has offered a reward of nearly 250 million dollars for Khalil Ibrahim, the leader of Darfur’s Justice and Equality Movement (Jem).

The group’s unprecedented attack on Khartoum on Saturday brought the region’s long-running conflict within shooting distance of the mational capital and the seat of president Omar al-Bashir’s administration for the first time.

The Sudanese defence and interior ministers have even been questioned by parliament on how Jem rebels were able to to get so close to Khartoum.

We ask how the raid has affected the crisis in Dafur and how it has affected Sudan’s relationship with neighbouring Chad, who it accuses of colluding in the attack?
