Bush: ‘Confront the danger of Iran’

Speaking in Abu Dhabi on the latest leg of his Middle East tour, George Bush, the US president, urged Arab nations to join to “confront the danger of Iran” before it is “too late”.

 

As part of what was billed as the keynote speech of his eight-day tour, he branded Tehran the world’s biggest state sponsor of terror, claiming that Iran funds terrorists, arms the Taliban, undermines peace in Lebanon and defies the UN with its nuclear weapons programme.

 

He also appealed to the Iranian people to reject their country’s leadership, telling them that there is a better alternative to the the current regime of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Iranian president.

 

The sentiments expressed in his speech were nothing new and the rhetoric was as blunt as ever, but how will Gulf countries react to Bush’s call?
