International protests are continuing over the decision by Britain to grant author Salman Rushdie a knighthood.

Rushdie’s 1988 novel, The Satanic Verses, sparked outrage throughout the Muslim world because of its perceived blasphemy.

Were British authorities right to grant Rushdie the honour? And why, almost 20 years after the book was published, has it provoked such controversy yet again?
