Suicide car bomb Kabul
Inside Story

Rebuilding Afghanistan

$15billion and 6 years later we look at the situation in Afghanistan.

undefined

A car bomb kills 13 in Kabul on the day Afghanistan celebrates the sixth anniversary of the Bonn agreement that should have established peace, security and development in the country.

Has Afghanistan missed the best chance for a better future, or have the priorities changed as security takes the lead before reconstruction?

We evaluate the Bonn agreement after six years and look into the funding for the reconstruction of Afghanistan, eradication of opium farming, and disarming the tribes. More than $15 billion has been given in assistance since 2001 but has it been properly spent on development or rather diverted to security related activities?
