Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf’s attempt to win a second five-year term has triggered the strongest opposition to his rule since he took power in 1999.
The government has arrested a number of opposition leaders, a move criticised by the US.
The supreme court has yet to say if Musharraf is entitled to seek a second term while remaining army chief.
