Nicolas Sarkozy, the French president, is planning to use his visit to Morocco to outline plans to set up a new economic community around the Mediterranean.
The plan would include the European Union, Morocco, Turkey, Lebanon, Israel and Syria.
Sarkozy’s initiative will revive the Barcelona Process – a treaty aimed at political and security initiatives in the region – dating back almost 12 years.
However, can it work? Or, as critics say, is this just the French president grandstanding?
