The war in Iraq no longer seems to be the main issue of debate in the US presidential race. Instead, the presidential candidates have been clashing over the economy, healthcare and immigration.
This week’s ‘Super Tuesday’ highlighted how the Republican and Democratic candidates for the presidency have almost completely taken their eyes off Iraq, despite record levels of civilian and military casualties last month.
With a new wave of recent attacks by al-Qaeda threatening to plunge Iraq into more chaos, some political observers say it would be dangerous for the US to lose its focus on Iraq in the run up to the US presidential elections in November.
Inside Iraq this week looks at the extent to which the war in Iraq may impact on the US presidential elections and whether there might be an economic and political backlash that could haunt the new US president for years to come.
