The failure of Zimbabwe’s electoral commission to publish the results of the presidential poll, three weeks after the votes were cast continues to cause ructions.

And this week the focus of dissent has been not Robert Mugabe, but Thabo Mbeki, the leader of neighbouring South Africa.

Mbeki’s insistence that there is ‘no crisis’ in Zimbabwe was refuted by members of his own ANC party in South Africa.

The ANC’s president, Jacob Zuma said: “The region cannot afford a deepening crisis in Zimbabwe.”

So, is Mbeki in trouble with his own party?

Malcolm Rifkind dicusses Nato,  the Ukraine and Georgia

The Ukraine and Georgia had hoped to be brought in from the cold and into Nato.

But at the military alliances summit in the Romanian capital Bucharest earlier this month it was concluded that for the foreseeable future they will remain on the outside.

John Hurt discusses his latest roles with Sir David

From the Elephant Man and Midnight Express, to Hellboy and Harry Potter, John Hurt has starred in more than 100 films, has been nominated for two Academy Awards and has won two Baftas and a Golden Globe.

Now John is starring alongside Elijah Wood in The Oxford Murders and next month will be in the much anticipated blockbuster, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Josette Sheeran

Josette Sheeran is the head of the United Nations World Food Programme

With food riots breaking out in three of the world’s continents in the last few weeks the issue of food has never been more acute, with warnings from the head of the UN, the World Bank and the IMF.

Just last week the prime minister of Haiti was forced to step down after five people were killed in food protests.

The price of wheat has more than doubled in the last year and rice prices have soared 141 per cent since January.

Josette Sheeran is the head of the UN World Food Programme, the body set up to combat world poverty.

She explains the reasons for the current food crisis and what the international community can do to help.

Maria Emma Mejia

Maria Emma Mejia will supervise the electoral process in Paraguay

On Sunday, April 20, Paraguayans will go to the polls to vote for a new president.

For the first time in 61 years the ruling Colorado party is threatened with defeat.

Recent polls put the former bishop and opposition candidate Fernando Lugo in the lead, and the Colorado Party candidate Blanca Ovelar in third.

Yet, it is too soon to declare a winner, with the final outcome closely tied to voter turn-out.

Sir David is joined by Maria Emma Mejia, a former Colombian foreign minister and the head of the Organisation of American States’ mission to supervise the electoral process in Paraguay.
