For the first time in 61 years the ruling Colorado party is threatened with defeat.
Recent polls put the former bishop and opposition candidate Fernando Lugo in the lead, and the Colorado Party candidate Blanca Ovelar in third.
Yet, it is too soon to declare a winner, with the final outcome closely tied to voter turn-out.
Sir David is joined by Maria Emma Mejia, a former Colombian foreign minister and the head of the Organisation of American States’ mission to supervise the electoral process in Paraguay.
