Nepalese launch sarcastic call to #DonateOilToIndianEmbassy

After an ongoing fuel shortage in Nepal, Indian Embassy seeks fuel from a state-owned Nepal Oil Corporation.

An ongoing petrol shortage in Nepal has forced the Indian embassy in Kathmandu, Nepal’s capital, to request weekly fuel supplies from the state-owned Nepal Oil Corporation. Supply routes from India, Nepal’s main source of fuel, remain blocked by protesters from ethnic groups in the southern plains, who oppose Nepal’s new constitution. The protests have led to the death of at least 40 people, and thousands of trucks remain stranded on the Indian border, as Nepal considers air-lifting fuel from Bangladesh.

With Nepal accusing India of imposing a blockade to pressure the country to address the demands of the protesters, the Indian embassy’s plea for oil elicited strong reactions from netizens in Kathmandu, who launched the sarcastic hashtag #DonateOilToIndianEmbassy
