The heat wave behind the wildfires has taken thousands of lives. The only relief from the heat and the flames may come from hurricane-force winds and heavy rains which are bringing their own problems.

Already in the midst of an economic downturn, Russia may be struggling with the after-effects of the 2010 summer for years to come.

On Tuesday’s Riz Khan show we speak with Boris Volodarsky, a former Soviet military intelligence officer, and Maria Lipman, the editor-in-chief of Pro Et Contra, a journal published by the Carnegie Moscow Center.
